Our Goldendoodle Story

Our love for Goldendoodles actually began long before we ever met one. It started with the beautiful Golden Retriever breed. From the time we were married in 1999 until 2023, a Golden Retriever was always part of our home. We fell in love with their sweet, playful, loyal personalities and the way they fit so naturally into family life—especially with young kids.

The only challenge we ever had with Goldens was the shedding. Their hair seemed to follow us everywhere! When it came time to choose our next furry family member, we hoped to find a dog with the same wonderful Golden temperament but without all the loose hair. That’s when we discovered the Goldendoodle—a breed known not only for its loving nature, but also for being more allergy‑friendly.

In 2021, we added Millie to our family, and she has been an absolute joy. She truly embodies the best qualities of the Golden Retriever: affectionate, playful, and happiest when she’s close to her people. She loves playing fetch, running outside, going for car rides, visiting the beach, and snuggling on the couch. She has brought so much fun and love into our home.

As our love for the breed grew, so did our family. We now have Wrigley, one of Millie’s daughters, living with us as well. Wrigley is such a sweet girl we are so excited for her to be a future momma. Watching her grow and develop from day 1 has been such a special experience, and we’re excited to see how she continues Millie’s legacy in the years ahead.

Breeding has been something we dreamed about for many years, but while raising our three boys, the timing was never quite right. Now that our kids are older, we finally have the time—and the extra helping hands—to pour our hearts into raising healthy, well‑socialized puppies. It’s a family effort, and we feel grateful to share this journey with others who are ready to welcome a Goldendoodle into their home.

Why Families Love Goldendoodles

Goldendoodles have captured the hearts of families with their affectionate personalities, intelligence, and love of companionship. A blend of the Golden Retriever and Poodle, they can bring together many wonderful qualities—making them beloved companions in homes of all kinds.

A Beautiful Variety of Colors

Goldendoodles come in a lovely range of colors, including cream, apricot, red, and brown, along with a variety of patterns and markings. Their coats and expressive faces give each puppy a look all their own. Coat color and appearance can also change as a Goldendoodle matures, making every dog’s journey unique.

Low-Shedding Coats & Allergy Considerations

Many families are drawn to Goldendoodles because of their potential for low shedding. Poodles are known for their low-shedding coats, and Goldendoodles may inherit this trait. However, shedding can vary from dog to dog—even within the same litter.

At Millie’s Goldendoodles, we genetically test our parent dogs for coat-related traits to help us make informed breeding decisions. While many allergy-sensitive families are interested in Goldendoodles, no dog is truly hypoallergenic, and no coat can be guaranteed not to shed or trigger allergies. If allergies are a concern, we recommend spending time around dogs with similar coat types before bringing a puppy home.

Coats as Unique as Their Personalities

Goldendoodles can have curly, wavy, or straighter coats, depending on the traits they inherit from their parents. Each coat type has its own grooming needs, and all Goldendoodles benefit from consistent care.

Regular brushing at home and professional grooming—often every 6–8 weeks—help prevent mats and keep their coats comfortable and healthy. Families should be prepared for grooming to be a lifelong part of Goldendoodle ownership.

Loving Family Companions

Goldendoodles are often cherished for their affectionate, people-oriented personalities. Many enjoy being close to their families, whether that means joining in on playtime, relaxing nearby, or snuggling after a busy day.

They can be wonderful companions for families with children when thoughtfully matched and properly introduced. As with any dog, young children should always be supervised, and children should be taught to interact gently and respectfully.

Intelligent, Social & Eager to Learn

Goldendoodles are often intelligent and eager to please, making them enjoyable dogs to train. Positive reinforcement, consistency, and early socialization help them develop confidence and good manners.

Many are naturally social and enjoy being part of family activities. Their individual personalities can vary, which is why we place such importance on temperament and helping families find a puppy that fits their lifestyle.

Playful & Ready for Adventure

Goldendoodles can range from moderately active to quite energetic. Most enjoy a mix of daily exercise, play, and mental stimulation. Walks, fetch, training games, and outdoor adventures are all great ways to keep them engaged.

Their exercise needs vary based on age, size, and individual temperament, but Goldendoodles generally thrive when they have opportunities to move, explore, and spend time with their people.

Potential for Therapy & Service Work

With their intelligence, trainability, and people-focused nature, some Goldendoodles may be well-suited for therapy or service work. However, these roles require specific temperaments, extensive training, and individual evaluation. Not every Goldendoodle will be suited for this type of work, but their desire to connect with people can make training a rewarding experience.

A Fit for Many Types of Homes

Goldendoodles may adapt well to a variety of living environments, including apartments, townhomes, and larger homes. What matters most is not simply the size of the home, but whether a dog’s exercise, enrichment, training, and companionship needs can be met.

A smaller Goldendoodle may be a good fit for some apartment households, while larger or more energetic dogs may need additional space and activity. Thoughtful planning and a commitment to daily care are important in any living situation.

At Millie’s Goldendoodles, we believe responsible breeding is about much more than producing beautiful puppies. It’s about thoughtfully pairing healthy dogs, nurturing strong temperaments, and giving each puppy the best possible foundation for a lifetime as a beloved family companion.

We are a small, family-run, in-home Goldendoodle program in Yadkinville, North Carolina. Our puppies are raised right here in our home, where they become part of our everyday family life from the very beginning.

We intentionally keep our program small so we can give our dogs and puppies the individual attention they deserve.

🩺 Health Comes First

Every breeding decision begins with the health of our dogs and the puppies they may produce.

Our breeding dogs undergo recommended health and genetic testing, and we carefully consider health history, structure, temperament, genetics and pedigree when planning pairings.

We don't believe breeding should be about simply producing puppies. Each litter should have a purpose, and every pairing is thoughtfully planned with the future family in mind.

🐾Thoughtfully Bred Multigenerational Goldendoodles

We specialize in multigenerational Goldendoodles because this allows us to thoughtfully select for the qualities we value in our program, including temperament, coat characteristics, size and overall health.

Our goal is to produce puppies with beautiful, manageable coats and the loving, people-oriented temperaments that make Goldendoodles such wonderful family companions.

While genetics can never guarantee exactly what an individual puppy will look like or how much it will shed, careful breeding and genetic testing allow us to make informed decisions when planning each litter.

🏡Raised in Our Home

Our puppies don't grow up simply waiting for the day they go home.

They grow up surrounded by people, household sounds, normal daily activity and plenty of individual interaction.

From their earliest days, we incorporate age-appropriate experiences designed to help puppies develop confidence and adaptability. This includes Early Neurological Stimulation, Early Scent Introduction, enrichment, handling, different textures and surfaces, household sounds, play and exposure to everyday routines.

As they grow, puppies are introduced to experiences that help prepare them for life beyond our home, including crate exposure, potty routines, grooming handling and other age-appropriate experiences.

Our goal isn't to create a “perfect” puppy. It's to give each puppy a strong foundation from which their new family can continue building.

🤝 We Get to Know Every Puppy

One of the most important parts of raising a litter is getting to know the individual personalities of the puppies.

As they grow, we watch how they interact with people, their littermates and their environment. We pay attention to their confidence, energy, curiosity, adaptability and developing personalities.

That's one reason we don't believe families should have to choose a puppy based solely on a photograph at a very young age.

By waiting until the puppies are older and combining our observations with veterinary evaluation and temperament information, we can help families make a more informed decision about which puppy may be the best fit for their lifestyle.

When you bring home a Millie's puppy, we want you to feel like you're gaining more than a new dog.

We spend weeks preparing your puppy for the transition to your home, and we send each puppy home with thoughtfully selected supplies, information and resources to help make those first days easier.

But our relationship doesn't end on go-home day.

We're here to answer questions, celebrate milestones and support our families as their puppies grow.
